Terms of Service
Effective October 11, 2026
These terms cover your use of The Guitar Scales (theguitarscales.com), operated by Madison Wilkins ("we", "us"). By using the site you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.
1. What the site is
The Guitar Scales is a music reference for guitar and other instruments: scales, chords, chord shapes, exercises, lessons and dashboards. Anyone can use the music features without an account.
2. Accounts
- You sign in with your Google account. You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age to consent in your country) to make an account.
- You're responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us at admin@theguitarscales.com if you think someone else has used it.
- We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, after telling you why where we reasonably can.
- You can ask us to delete your account at any time (see the Privacy Policy).
3. Plans
- What each plan includes (dashboards, saved presets, publishing, chord-sheet imports and so on) is listed on the site and may change. If a change takes something away from a paid plan you've paid for, it applies from your next billing period.
- If you move to a plan that includes less, what you saved stays saved: things your new plan doesn't cover are hidden or read-only until you move back, and you can still delete them.
- Refunds are covered by the Refund Policy.
4. Your content
- You own what you make here: dashboards, lyrics you type, presets and settings ("your content").
- You let us store, copy and display your content as needed to run the site for you. When you make a read-only link or publish a dashboard to the community, you also let anyone view that dashboard, and let signed-in users copy it to their own account.
- You can turn sharing off or delete your content at any time. Copies other users already made are theirs.
- Only share or publish content you have the right to share. Song lyrics usually belong to their songwriters and publishers.
5. Chord-sheet imports
- The importer turns a chord sheet you paste, or a link you give, into a dashboard for your own personal use.
- When you give a link, our server fetches that one page on your behalf. You're responsible for having the right to use it; many chord sites allow personal, non-commercial use only.
- Imported dashboards are private: they can't be shared or published, because they usually contain lyrics we have no right to publish.
- Imports are limited per day by your plan, and we may turn importing from links off at any time.
6. Acceptable use
Don't:
- break the law, or infringe anyone's copyright or other rights;
- publish content that's hateful, harassing, sexually explicit, or misleading about who made it;
- try to get into accounts or systems that aren't yours, or probe, overload or disrupt the site;
- scrape the site or its API in bulk, or use them to build a competing service;
- get around plan limits, or use the importer to collect content from other sites in bulk.
We may remove published content that breaks these rules.
7. Our content
The site's software, design, lessons and Official dashboards belong to us or our licensors. Chord and scale facts aren't owned by anyone; you're free to use what you learn here. Instrument sounds are FluidR3_GM soundfonts, used under the CC BY 3.0 licence.
8. Disclaimers
The site is provided "as is". We work to keep it accurate and available, but we don't promise that every chord shape, scale or exercise is correct or suits your playing, or that the site will always be available or free of errors. To the extent the law allows, we disclaim all implied warranties.
9. Limit of liability
To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for lost data, and our total liability to you is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and US$50. Nothing here limits liability that can't be limited by law.
10. Changes
We may update these terms. We'll post the new version here with its effective date, and tell signed-in users about significant changes before they apply. If you keep using the site after that, the new terms apply.
11. Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, USA, except where the law where you live gives you rights that can't be waived.
