About The Guitar Scales
The Guitar Scales works out every scale, chord shape and exercise from music theory itself, for guitar, 7-string, bass, ukulele, banjo, mandolin and piano, in many tunings. Nothing is a hand-drawn chart: pick a key, a scale and a tuning, and the site builds the fretboard for you.
What you can do here, free and without signing in:
- Scales: any major or minor mode or exotic scale, in any key and tuning, as patterns you can shift up the neck.
- Chords: every voicing of a chord, from open shapes to inversions and extended chords, ranked by what players actually pick.
- Chord Builder: every chord in a scale, ready to practise against.
- Exercises: tablature that walks a scale in patterns, ascending and descending, with playback.
- Lessons: Official lesson dashboards for each instrument.
With a free account, you can build your own dashboard: chords, scales, exercises, progressions and lyrics on one page, shared with a link. Paid plans (coming soon) add more dashboards, saved presets, publishing to the community and importing chord sheets in bulk.
The Guitar Scales is made by Madison Wilkins, a guitarist and developer who wanted one place that explains why the shapes work, not just where the fingers go. Questions, ideas and bug reports are welcome at admin@theguitarscales.com.
